Classes of Fire and their Corresponding Materials
- Class A: Combustible Materials such as paper, wood, cardboard, and most plastics.
- Class B: Flammable Liquids (Combustible Liquids) such as petrol, diesel, paint, oil, grease, and paraffin, etc.
- Class C: Flammable Gases such as LPG gas, Propane, Butane, and Methane.
- Class D: Combustible Metals such as lithium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, aluminum.
- Class E: Electrical Fires or Equipment.
- Class F: Deep Fat Fryers; involves cooking oils and fats.
Classification Of Extinguishers
Water Extinguishers:
Description: Most common extinguisher for class A fire risk.
Colour Label: Bright Red 🔴
Foam Extinguishers:
Description: Common for Class B and also works for Class A.
Colour Label: Cream
Dry Powder (ABC Extinguishers):
Description: Suitable for ABC fires, but not recommended for use in enclosed spaces or on electrical fires as it may cause damage.
Colour Label: Blue 🔵
CO2 Extinguishers:
Description: Used for Class E (electric) fires without causing damage, also effective for Class B fires.
Colour Label: Black
Wet Chemical Extinguishers:
Description: Used for Class F fires involving cooking oils and fats. Also effective for Class A fires.
Colour Label: Yellow 🟡
